Cool Nights & Warm Cars Are A Scary Combo
For Kitties
While most of us are excited about cooler
By Samantha Bennett weather and all things fall, (colorful leaves,
Executive Director, jack-o-lanterns, pumpkin spice everything, &
Robeson County Thanksgiving dinner) there are other not so
Humane Society pleasant aspects to this season.
Those cool nights mean that stray and outdoor
cats search out warm places to catnap. This
sometimes results in a cat being killed under
the hood of a vehicle when the engine is start-
ed or falling out into traffic as you drive. The
solution is usually as simple as hitting your
hood before you get in and blowing your horn
after you do. Please be mindful during the cold
months of our furry friends; not only for cats
but any animal left outside. It is always better
to bring your animals inside during extreme
weather, be it any season.
Another cat related topic to highlight is due
to the superstitions about cats and Halloween.
Many cats, especially black cats, may be in
danger on Halloween night. Unfortunately,
black cats are sometimes targeted for abuse.
As with any story that has a long and color-
ful past, many superstitions and myths about
black cats still linger today. If you have a black
kitty at home, please be diligent and keep them
safe. Some of the more commonly heard black
cat warnings include:
• It is bad luck for a black cat to cross your
path
• Never turn your back on a black cat or you
will be cursed
• A black cat on the bed of an ill person will
bring death
• In Asia and the United Kingdom, black cats
are considered good luck
Black cats are not bad luck or evil. They are
loving family fur friends, just like any other
cat. We have several black cats here at RCHS
that are looking for their forever home. Call
