Ready to get involved? The District 11 GAL program needs
volunteers from diverse backgrounds, particularly men, who
are currently underrepresented ― only 11 of the department’s
114 volunteers are male.
Kase encourages anyone interested in volunteering to do so,
even if there are doubts about time commitment or skill set.
“I would say if you have in your heart concern and care for
children to go ahead and give GAL a try to see if it is the right
fit for you. They give volunteers phenomenal preservice train-
ing and ongoing support through an assigned supervisor from
the staff, so you are not alone.”
