accolades for his paintings, drawings and greeting
cards. His generous and loving personality shines
in everything he does. His empathetic nature rings
through to the people he encounters. He is a ready
and sympathetic listener, a good friend to many,
many people, and a very wise man.

That wisdom came dear. John fought obesity and de-
pression for many years. He lived in a nursing home
for over 6 years because of failing health, facing the
threat of death many times. But God wasn’t done
with John Johnson yet. John underwent weight loss
surgery, valiantly overcame the depression. and lost
over 300 pounds. You might say he carved a new
life for himself. Even now he fights the effects of
illness. But he doesn’t allow it to dampen his love
of art, people and the Lord. He has left the nursing
facility, and now enjoys many things that had denied
him during the years of struggle. Like his well-loved
muscle car. He will witness to you that God has
rewarded him for his faithfulness and blessed him
pressed down and running over. And looking at the
results, I absolutely agree. This is one Dunn native,
that in the best sense of the word, is an inspiration.
