                             Matt Scott




                          Matt Scott, a member of the Lumbee Tribe, was sworn in as the first Native American District Attorney
                          in North Carolina on January 1, 2019.  Mr. Scott, a native of Pembroke, first joined the Robeson County
                          District Attorney’s Office in 2010 as an Assistant District Attorney.  In that role, Mr. Scott prosecuted all
                          types of felony cases, but he predominately focused on narcotic and violent crime prosecutions.
                          During his time as an Assistant District Attorney, Mr. Scott worked as a Special Assistant United States
                          Attorney. In this role, Mr. Scott worked within the Eastern District of North Carolina’s Organized Crime
                          and Drug Task Force focusing on federal prosecutions of major drug trafficking organizations.
                          Mr. Scott was raised in Robeson County graduating from Purnell Swett High School.  He earned a
                          Bachelor of Science Degree from North Carolina State University in 1999 and a Doctor of Laws Degree
                          from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2002. After graduating from law school, Mr. Scott joined
                          the United States Army as a Judge Advocate and paratrooper stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina

                          with the 18th Airborne Corps. During his 8 /2 years on active duty, Mr. Scott spent the majority of his
                          time as a prosecutor culminating in being the lead prosecutor on a high profile capital case which has
                          been featured on 20/20 and CNN. Mr. Scott is also a Combat Veteran serving in Iraq where he was
                          awarded the Bronze Star for his service. Mr. Scott continues to serve his country as a Lieutenant
                          Colonel in the United States Army Reserve.

                          In addition to his duties with the U.S. Army Reserve and District Attorney’s Office, Mr. Scott serves as
                          a Deacon at Berea Baptist Church and is a member of the Tri-Warriors Triathlon group which promotes
                          physical fitness within our community. Most recently, Mr. Scott was appointed by Governor Roy
                          Cooper to serve on the North Carolina Governor’s Crime Commission.
                          Mr. Scott is married to Jessica Scott and they have two children, Gabriel and Ethan Scott.
