volunteer and board member Jessica Fuller West helps with
this part of the project. “As soon as my boys heard Mr. Jef-
frey discussing organizing the first event, they wanted to be
involved,” West said. “Watching them be so excited about it
and figuring out ways they could spread kindness just made
me want to help more. This has been a tough season in life for
us. So, for our community to come together to spread kind-
ness like this has been amazing to witness.”
Want to help spread kindness? Volunteers are always needed,
West said. “There are many ways to help, such as through
donating, helping to arrange the flowers, delivering the prod-
ucts, making cards and praying for these events, volunteers
and residents. All are greatly appreciated.”
Surles leans on the wisdom and logic his father imparted to
him when asked why this issue? And, why now? “Don’t ever
let your struggles outweigh your blessings,” he remembers
his fatherly saying. Project Not Forgotten sees senior adults’
struggles and bestows blessings with floral gifts at the door,
but Surles aspires for more. “We anticipate going into visit
ourselves, singing to the residents and handing out the flow-
ers ourselves,” he said. “We plan on being here long after the
pandemic.”
