lead to a greater accumulation of fat which may cause fatty
liver disease, a contributor to diabetes, increased blood pres-
sure and raises your risk for heart disease. In a 2014 published
study they found an association between a high-sugar diet and
a greater risk of dying from heart disease. Over the course of
the 15-year study, people who got 20% of their calories from
added sugar had a 38% higher risk of dying from cardiovascu-
lar disease. Basically, the higher the intake of added sugar, the
higher the risk for heart disease.
Because natural sugars are found in so many foods we eat to
be “healthy,” it is important to remember to include them in
our daily sugar intake to avoid any negative health side effects.
So when you see your first fruit stand pop up on the side of
the road this spring stop and support our local businesses and
enjoy those delicious berries and melons. Just remember as
with most thing in life moderation is key. The doctors at Beck
& Blackey Chiropractic Clinic would be more than happy to
discuss dietary sugar or any other health related topic with you.
